{Friday, February 12, 2010 . Why must our hands be dry when we touch electrical circuit?}

We have always been told never to touch electrical appliaces when our hands are wet. Ever wonder why? Of course, our parents will say that we may get electrocuted. Well, eletrocution is how i can summarizd the explanation of not touching electrical appliances when hands are wet. Here's the explanation:
The current is flowing through electrical circuits and when you place your wet hands on it, this will cause current to travel through you as water is a conductor of electricity, thus electrocuting you.

This is a few notes about what are the effects of electrical shocks as well as what to do when someone is being electrocuted:

Physiological effects of electric Shocks
-If we touch the naked wire then we get some shock which causes pain or trauma to our body. If the intensity of shock is little then we will survive but if it some strong shock then we can get serious effects.

-The electric shock generates heat inside our body and if the shock is strong then it will generate a lot of heat and it may burn or damage our tissues. The ultimate effect of burning or damage of tissue can lead to permanent problem inside our body.

-The most significant effect of electrical shock in our body is on nervous system. It blocks the signals produced by the nerve cells from reaching their destinations. Thus they are overloading the nervous system and preventing both reflex and volitional signals from being able to actuate muscles. Muscles triggered by an external (shock) current will involuntarily contract, and there's nothing the victim can do about it.

Rescue operations:
-If a person gets the electric shock then until and unless he/she is released from the connection the person remains electrified. In that situation don't try to touch the electrified person with your hands as it may shock you.

-At first try to switch off the main supply of electricity. If the power can't be switched off then try to free the victim from contact immediately with the help of some non conducing material like plastic pipe, rope, clothing, dry stick or any other similar thing.

-Never try to touch the victim with any metallic object or with bare hands.

-The first three minutes are very important for the victim so act immediately. If the victim is unconscious and isn't breathing then commence resuscitation.

-Quickly send for a doctor.

Here is a video about some safety tips about electricity and if we don't follow these saftey rules, we'll start ba fire. The guy is really ood about explaining this things as his voice is very clear, as well as the words written on the whiteboard:

So, how was it? Good, isn't it? :)

and here's a video about a man who purposely electrocutes himself:

Hope it is helpful. :)

{Tuesday, February 2, 2010 . Electric Chairs}

Warning! This post is NOT for the faint hearted. The topic of today's post is none other than.... THE ELECTRIC CHAIR!

It lurks in a hidden corner, harmless, and innocent. It's large wooden frame suggests that there is no secrets beneath it. It weighed a ton, yet it looked as it was as light as a feather, for it was not burdened by murders, blood and horrors. The unsuspecting victim skips daintily to it and sits down, smiling to herself. All was quiet. A metal latch closed on the victim's head but she did not scream, thinking it was nothing more than a ....... BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!

A second later, she lays dead.

Right, today i'm about to tell you the concept of the electric chair. The electric chair works by sending the electric shocks up the brain. Here's a video about the electric chair:

This video above is telling us the steps and procedures when they're putting a criminal on the electric chair. It is a very inhumane thing to do.

This video below is taken from The Man Who Wasn't There. It ends where he is about to be electrocuted by the evil commanders. They didn't show you that he was being electrocuted, just about to be. It is actually very sad.

I really recommend you to watch the show. It's so touching and it depicts the cruelty of the electric chair. Did you hear his final words? It was pretty heart-rending. Everything is just so real.

Explanation:

A helmet with electrodes with a wet sea sponge is placed on the victim's head, followed by little electrodes in the ankle. He is then strapped in the chair by chest, ankles, wrists and lap. The current is then turned on to about 2000 volts for 8 seconds, the 1000 volts for 20 seconds then 2000 volts again for another 8 seconds. Ta-dah. The victim is dead. But if he's not, then the whole cycle would be repeated. Well, by now, the victim would be burnt and have alot of lacerations on his skin.

*shudders* i really think people should put a stop to the use of electric chair. It really is very cruel.

May God bless those who had suffered in the hands of this vile contraption
. Amen.
